Privacy
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics, and loads nothing from anyone else.
This site
- No cookies. None, of any kind, which is why there is no consent banner.
- No analytics. No visitor counting, no tracking pixels, no fingerprinting. I do not know who you are or how many of you there are.
- No third-party requests. No fonts, scripts or images are loaded from anyone else’s server, so no other company learns that you read this page. There is no exception: nothing on this site talks to anybody but the machine serving it.
- Server logs. The site is served by Cloudflare Pages, which keeps its own access logs. That is outside my control; see Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
The application
Skribisto itself has no account system, no telemetry and no usage reporting. It does not need a network connection to open, edit, save or export your work, and it never sends your work anywhere.
Your manuscripts are files on your own machine. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
It makes two kinds of network request, and no others.
Checking whether a newer version exists. Once a day at most, Skribisto downloads one small file from this site listing the current release number, and compares it with the version you are running on your own machine. The request is a plain download of a fixed public file. It carries no identifier, no account, no information about your work, and not even the version you are running: the comparison happens on your computer, not on the server. Like any request to any website it does reveal your IP address to the server answering it, which is the one described above, and that is the only thing about you it discloses.
The check is on by default and you can turn it off at any time in Settings, under Notifications. Copies installed from Flathub never make the request at all, because the software centre already keeps them up to date.
Downloading a spelling dictionary, and only when you ask for one. This goes to whoever publishes that dictionary, not to me.
